Sent: Friday, September 27, 2002 4:25 PMSubject: Lighthouse Trails Kayak Demo Weekend 10/19-20 Lighthouse Trails Legacy Weekend Saturday and Sunday, October 19 and 20. Mark you calendar now. Two day event begins Saturday with free kayak tours on the Lighthouse Trails at 10am and 2pm Saturday and Sunday. Limited to 40 kayaks for each tour, but kayakers with their own kayaks may join also. Also, kayak manufacturers will be on hand with kayaks for the public to try Saturday and Sunday at the Lighthouse Trail on Highway 361 just 1 mile west of the Ferry Landing at Port Aransas. This is the time to look at all the new kayaks that are available and try them out. John Van Ness from Austin Outdoor Gear and Guidance will be there with many new kayaks to try, including the new Performa II, a 16 foot fiberglass kayak with many new innovative features: handy day hatch/cooler just behind the cockpit that is fully insulated to keep iced drinks cold or to used as a regular water-tight hatch for camera, keys and snacks. New hull design is more stable, easier to turn, and comes with a unique forward sliding skeg for improved tracking in violent wind and waves. There will also be kayak racing events to enter. This is the second year for this event, and it proved very popular last year so be sure and get there early. This same weekend, Texas Parks and Wildlife will be waiving all Park entry fees for all Texas Parks. Anyone interested in discovering the state's natural and cultural treasures while raising funds to support conservation and historical preservation should visit one of the more than 120 state parks and historic sites during Lone Star Legacy Weekend Oct. 19-20.
