I've been paddling the predecessor to Blade for a few years (a carerra). This past year I've been padding solo and tandem outrigger canoes a fair bit. I've heard of a couple of combination usage surf ski/outrigger canoes. A combination hull is the top of my _next_ boat list, I've already warned my wife I'll be buying myself another boat for my next birthday ;-) This past weekend I attempted to paddle a Current Designs Stingray without the outrigger using a kayak paddle. I have a new benchmark for the tippiest boat I've attempted to paddle. The stingray hull when put into the water tips onto it's side. With the seat a couple of inches above the water line it was, entertaining. I managed to scull long enough to get my feet into the boat and then paddle 50 yards, with a series of forward sweep braces along the way. I fell off the instant I attempted to turn around. I'm not sure I can learn to paddle that hull without the amas. But I'm dumb enough to want to try a few more times ;-) Kirk -- http://fastmail.fm/ - Consolidate POP email and Hotmail in one place *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
