I played combat kayak football on the canal last night with a borrowed whitewater kayak. It was ugly, fun and just dangerous enough to be exciting. Fingers mashed by slashing paddles was the popular injury. I tried to roll while obstructed by the goal line rope strung across the canal. I failed miserably and became very interested as to what was keeping me under (read approaching panic) as I ran out of air. I will have to add rolling with rope as a segment to our club safety class.
