I'm the gentleman who recently asked the questions about bent-shaft (crank-shat) paddles, and about 4-piece take-apart paddles for use in traveling with folding kayaks. I want to say thanks to everyone for the information, advice, and experience they shared. It was helpful -- although to be honest, I'm still digesting it all (let's just say a consensus wasn't exactly "right there"). It seems I'll need to do a bit of experimenting with the bent-shaft paddles to see what I like. Unfortunately, living where I do (away from the hot-beds of kayaking where shops and demo gear are plentiful), this is a bit tough. I may have to just take a flyer on something and hope for the best. A special thanks to, I believe, Ralph Diaz, who offered the sage advice that one stay away from 4-piece break-down paddles from companies that don't do a lot of these units (due to leakage issues). >From this, and from the limited number of good 4-piece offerings, I'm leaning toward a another 2-piece, to be housed and hauled in one of my nice Salamander paddle bags for 2-piecers, which offers separate blade pockets for each paddle half and really saves wear and tear on your expensive water sticks. Thanks again to all! -.- jwd *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
