G'Day,

My situation exactly. Need a new life jacket and looking at the Kokatat
which is a PFD3. I'm a bit confused over what constitutes a suitable PFD for
sea conditions. Over here its supposed to be a PFD 1 or 2 for offshore. But
as far as i can tell the major difference between a PFD2 and a PFD3 is the
colour and the Kokatat comes in a "mango" color which looks as though it
should be clearly visible. I was attracted by the D rings and pockets for
gear and EPIRB (or food bars). But maybe these also contrbute to the lower
'rating' 3 vs 2?

Interested to hear what people think.

All the best, PeterO

Just returned from a marvelous 9 days kayaking deep in Alaska's Prince
William Sound. More on that later.

But I wanted to chime in on Kokotat's "mango" color. A few people had this
on the trip, and we all said how markedly more visible it was than the
other PFDs.

On the other hand, I found the Kokotat PFDs a bit too bulky, but I guess
that is the price of extra flotation.
