Not only does this not apply to kayaks, but it can be dangerous since it can
confuse other ships or boats that are not used to seeing the reg and green
lights so close together.

The lighting rules for kayaks are spelled out in "The Rules" There are both
inland and international versions and you need to find out which set is
appropos for your waters. For example, in our area, we go by the
international rules, but other areas here on the West Coast are considered
inland.

The only light required for a kayak is that you must carry a white light
that can be turned on when necessary.

To download a copy of the "The Rules", you can go here

needs red and green (port and starboard) lights on the bow and a white light
on the stern. Does this not apply to kyaks on the water at night?
