I have not faced this hostility when discussing different kayak > rescues, for example, paddle float rescues. The topic has been discussed quite rationally on PaddleWise (check the thread under the topics section). It's one thing for sponsons to be added to paddling gear by choice, a whole different ball game when the government decides everyone must include them in their gear. That would be an inconvenience and unnecessary expense for those paddlers that are experienced in more reliable rescue techniques and potentially deadly for novices who become emboldened by thinking sponsons will save them if they get in over their heads. It wouldn't be the first time an individual, through relentless campaigning to the government claiming "for public safety," managed to secure a mandate which primarily benefitted his own pocketbook. *That's* what folks are most unhappy about. Especially when that individual's mental stability is highly questionable. cheers, jackie *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
