Sea Kayakers,

My State Farm agent called underwriting yesterday and found out that kayaks
are not covered under the homeowners policy, and right now he is trying to
figure out how to insure kayaks. By the way, I told him before he checked that
if kayaks are covered under the homeowners policy, I wanted a letter from him
saying so. For a short time, I was an insurance property adjuster (hated it),
so I know the kind of crap that goes on. Adjusters look for any way to deny
the claim or minimize the payment.

>From past experience getting an agent to find out how to insure kayaks
can
be a learning experience for the agent. I've had 3 different agents
figure out
how to insure a sea kayak. None of them was able to get an answer in
under
a week.

I'm currently paying $50 per insured boat for full replacement
coverage,
in Massachusetts. As part of insuring the boats the insurance company
requested
the serial numbers of the boats. I have not needed to test the
coverage.

I use American Family Insurance and insure one kayak for about
$37/year. They did some research to come up with this, but I've had
it for a couple of years.
