Hi, Jim.

I remove the "strings" on my WW boat with the sander/planer/shaper used to shape Bondo auto repair polyester.

I am told -- but have not verified -- that the shiny surface you see on new polyethylene boats is not because of the mold.  Rather, a flame or hot air is used to slightly melt just the surface.  I guess this is best done on a cold day.  On a WW boat this would be pointless, since surface drag is generally not important in that application.
