Hey Ronnie,
You should get together with a friend of mine, Doug Alderson. He's always
fabricating his own equipment and even boats (from door skins clad in
cloth/epoxy). He has a good book out with money-saving tips. It's a standing
joke between us whenever we meet, as to how much I've spent recently
compared to his spendthrift ways. At the last surf meet, he was wearing his
discount special drysuit. Light, compact, and with a zipper all the way to
the crotch (providing relief, without the cost of a separate zipper). I was
there with a new HD custom drysuit with all the bells and whistles. $300.00
vs $1200.00. He had a good laugh once again (though I stayed in the surf all
day and didn't break any fingers).

Of course there was the time off Storm Island in horrendous seas where a
buddy of mine was freezing in his home made gloves made from old white
polypro underwear. Guess there is a balance somewhere. Well, good paddling
to you. There's a big low headed my way Friday, so I'm hoping to get out for
some storm night-paddling (something I've never done before). I just might
have to buy a new headlamp. :-)
