WARNING Garmin will ONLY replace the unit if it is under warranty which
means less than 1 year old. If its older than 1 year and leaks you have
to pay them to fix it.

If the fault is theirs, Garmin has been known to replace even
out-of-warranty units. I had a Garmin GPS 12XL in which the internal
battery failed after a year and I lost all saved waypoints and track
points. (Garmin had received a shipment of bad batteries from a supplier.)
They replaced mine free with a newer unit. Needless to say, I was very
pleased with their service.

BTW, newer Garmins no longer use an internal battery for data retention.
