I have just returned home from a weeklong trip to Costa Rica where I
did not kayak -- however, I did use my Garmin Etrex daily, carrying
the thing through the rainforest, primarily in extremely wet
conditions. Despite its previously mentioned difficulties in finding
satellites quickly when first turned on, it worked wonderfully.
However, I can't resist sharing this photo taken of me after hiking
with it to a high point on a lava flow, holding a snack of nuts in
one hand, the GPS in the other, and realizing that I'd forgotten to
reset my trip odometer.
