For those of you that have Garmin GPS units. Garmin is offering a $50
rebate on their Americas Bluechart CD. I found it on line for $109, net
after rebate $59. The Lake Superior charts are the reason I bought the CD.
I think $59 for electronic charts of all of Lake Superior, US and Canada is
a good price.

I've been a fan of Garmin GPS for a while my first GPS was a Garmin 45. The
45 was retired in favor of a 12XL. The 12XL was retired for a 76S. So far
I am impressed with the 76S technology and user interface. I'm not
convinced that the Electronic Compass or the barometer are worth much, but
the 24 MB of RAM for maps is well worth the cost differential between the 76
and the 76S. I purchased the Mapsource Topo CD with the GPS. The topo maps
include water way markers on Lake Superior, but not on the border lakes in
Voyageurs National Park or the markers on the Mississippi. I cannot say if
the information is better for costal marine markers.

Despite my personal preference for Garmin GPS units, the new Magellan GPS,
that float, have removable cards for map data and are less expensive than
the Garmin units may be a good choice for new GPS users who do not have
investments in software and cables.
