Hi All, My name is Dennis Spike and I have been paddling for 14 years. My business is guiding and outfitting the sport of kayak fishing. I was practicing acupuncture in suburban Los Angeles (paddle/fish from sunrise till noon, see patients from 1 or 2 pm till done:) back in `94 when a sportfishing magazine called and asked me to write a feature article. The sport was born and I kept writing . So far we're small and not profiting but we have a big presence, mostly among anglers, and hopefully the lifestyle will turn into a living sooner than later. I'm not here to make business and my offerings cater to.....well, you know, those plastic things they sell at Costco. I have a fleet of them. I know a few list members who referred me to the site. I saw a good opportunity to interact and educate myself better about "real" kayaking, since I was brought up in Tupperville and have the ability to educate a lot of entry level angler/paddlers nationwide. I'm really gravitating towards traditional touring kayaks for my style of fishing which is mostly offshore. My position here is as a novice to the traditional sport of kayaking so I don't have much to offer beyond how to feed yourself really well on the water (lobster or fish?). In closing, I'd like to add that the overwhelming majority of kayak anglers I come in contact with are hard core environmentalists hell bent on insuring both preservation of study areas and sustainable recreational fisheries. That is my direction too. And spending as many days a year on the water as possible. I'll add more information when I hear back from the list owner on do's and don'ts and I look forward to learning from your insights and experiences.
