  was planing. That only shows that memory and observation can be

Niels and Matt,

I too have experienced this feeling, but what I expect is really
happening is that you (and I) have had the throttles wide open to get up
on a plane and are still accelerating as we move up the bow wave and
through the transition to planing.  After we get up on the plane we
throttled back to a constant velocity, rather then continuing to
accelerate at an even faster rate.
