Paddlewisers,

The surf has been taking its toll on equipment and bodies in Southern
California during the last few weeks. Within our club we've had four damaged
composite kayaks and a broken paddle (Swift). Two of the kayaks (Eddyline and
Current Designs) had multiple hull fractures, one (Necky) had deck fractures,
and another (Perception) had the rudder ripped off and left hanging by the
cables. Among all of the surf carnage, there have been two neck injuries, and
a back and rib injuries, none of which seem serious yet.

I just have to say it: Plastic, plastic, plastic!

I've organized a campout at a state beach next weekend, and it looks like
another storm will be rolling in for it. I imagine the toll will continue.
I'll keep you posted.

Duane Strosaker

Sounds like a good time to leave the kayak in the garage and go ski the
powder dump for a few days.
