G'Day, I'm practicing bracing at the moment - particularly the sculling brace. My ambition is to get to a more or less horizontal position in or under the water while maintaining the scull. Its one of those techniques, which looks effortless in skilled hands and is a complete "dogs breakfast" when I try it lying horizontal in the water. One of my problems is that the blade tends to dive when using the power face down on the water as the text books advocate. When using the power face upwards, sculling seems much more stable as the blade tends to automatically find the right planing angle. Although I still can't get right down in the water and maintain the brace. Can anyone tell me what are the disadvantages of breaking the rules and using the power face upwards during a sculling brace? All the best, PeterO *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
