Marsanne:
In the same vein as the Minolta camera thread yesterday: I don't like
to paddle with anything I can't afford to lose or destroy. My paddling
binoculars are a rubberized, "waterproof" 8x26 West Marine "Bora Bora"
model _at_ $69.99. They fit in a pocket on my PFD. They offer 80% of the
quality of a top-line bino at 20% of the cost. 8x is about as strong as
you can go for steadiness on a small boat. In fact, I'd prefer 7x.
WM stock # is 2677771 . Go to http://www.westmarine.com/ and insert
the model # in the search window.
By the same token, my GPS is a basic $109 Garmin eTrex, and my VHF is a
$79 Uniden 5-watt. Both are in tethered pouches, so they float and I
don't have to take the manufacturer's word for their waterproofness.

Subject: [Paddlewise] Binoculars?

    Dear Group,
[snip] Do many of you use binoculars? If so, what type, and
how
much? I need to spend $, or $$, but definitely not $$$$. Thanks,
Marsanne
