[Paddlewise] ewa-marine + digital + idiot insurance?

With the camera discussion in progress I thought I'd ask about the
ewa-marine waterproof bags/cases for digital cameras. I use one with my
Nikon 995 digital - and it has worked well thus far. Has anyone had
experience with these bags? I suppose like anything, if you fail to
maintain it (seals) it will fail. I paid just under $100 for mine. I made
an elastic band with a patch of neoprene (aka thin mousepad) on it that
fits around the case - with the neoprene over the lens 'port' - to keep
splashes and water drops off. I can slip the band over my wrist to take a
shot - so chances of losing it are reduced - then just slip it over my hand
and onto the case again when finished.

I haven't tried the buoyancy test - I pretty sure it would sink so it will
always be on a tether and in a pocket.

By the way, does anyone use the retracting tethers used by divers for
gauges and lights - with 1" fastex buckles on either side? Would seem like
these would be useful for stuff you want at the ready but don't want
dropping away - here is an
example. http://www.island-scuba.com/thestore/prods/ACRL22.html

Idiot insurance - I got a personal articles policy (I believe as an option
under our homeowners policy) that lists items like firearms, cameras, video
equipment, etc etc. It is very inexpensive (I believe about $30/yr) and
covers ANYTHING. I was considering using our miniDV camera in a homemade
housing for snorkeling and the policy cover 100% full replacement cost -
even if it is due to my own stupidity - like making a leaky homemade
housing. Wouldn't prevent the loss of a trips-worth of images but would
make sure you had a new camera for your next outing.

Thanks,
Keith
