Here in Victoria we have two competing kayak stores in the down town. Just before Christmas I stopped into the Vancouver Island Kayak Centre seeking advice about my Matrix head lamp. The LEDs had burnt out which I thought was not suppose to happen for years. I simply wanted to know if they knew where I could get replacements. I explained that I'd bought the unit about a year ago from Mountain Equipment Co-op in Vancouver. They said they'd check it out and the next day called me and told me to bring it in and they'd replace it with a new unit, that the company wanted my head light back. That's great service. Last March I bought a Snap Dragon Spray skirt, having been told they were the best at keeping water out of the cockpit. I bought it at Ocean River Sports. The first time I tried it I got water in the cockpit. I figured I'd simply been the victim of bad advice and resigned myself to having to put up with a leaky spray skirt. Then I learned from Paddlewise that Snap Dragon makes to two tightness levels - somewhat tight and really tight. So I went back to Ocean River Sports to check this out. While there the staff looked my skirt over, got out the specs, then suggested comparing my skirt to one they had in stock. Both said large but mine was 4 inches bigger. It was an extra large that had been miss labeled. They exchanged it on the spot. That's great service as well. Competition is a good.
