You can literally camp anywhere you please-- except somebody's front yard. In Sweden, it's called "everyman's right." You're supposed to ask the owner, if you can find him, and he's supposed to say "yes!"-- and they do!! My partner and I paddled across the Baltic from Stockholm to Turku in June of 2001. And in the Lofoten of Norway in July. However, on long trips, it's still nice to find a hotel on the beach once in awhile (or with a pier you can tie up to). "Hot Showers of Maine" ( a catalogue of hotels accessible to kayakers) made our three-week paddle up the Maine coast a lot more comfortable-- and it helped spare the delicate ecology of the Maine Islands. douglas san francisco *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
