Help!!! I have just returned from a paddle and roll session, during which my Apelco 520 VHF was on my buoyancy vest. It was scanning the whole time, and receiving loud and clear. On getting home I turned it on again to discharge the battery before recharging. The speaker stopped working, a repeat of a problem that I had repaired under warranty last year. I took the battery off and discovered it was bubbling from under a contact, up into the contacts of the radio body. How do I clean the contacts, to stop any corrosion, without doing further damage? Used clean water on a "Q-tip" to remove any salt, let it dry, and it seemed to be okay. To get around that on the Standard --- and, looking at my old Apelco, it's probably the same for yours --- I put a couple of turns of electrical tape around the seam between the battery and the radio battery after charging. (It happens to cover the contacts as well, which is good.) Have never had a leak when using fresh electrical tape a seal.
