I think only solo paddlers faced with the prospect of shifting an expedition loaded kayak on land, truly appreciate the beauty of a break-down boat cart. And a special note for Klepper Aerius 1 owners: do you know that the standard cart frame can be fitted between ribs three and four, adjacent to your seat for storage on the water? You can jam the axle [ sans wheels of course ] between the ribs and the hull. The sponson provides a nice tension for the cart stay in place even if you flip the kayak! You may have to file the alloy frame of the cart slightly to ease the sharper edges. I find my thigh on the cart side of the boat gets a little tender at the end of a day otherwise I carry my wheels under netting on my rear deck of my single Aerius. I am not sure if the good people at Klepper designed the cart this way, but it is a neat way to carry the cart on extended passages. Of course you can carry the wheels inside the boat, but I find they take up an inordinate amount of room. And as they don't need to be out of the weather, I keep the under deck storage for camping stuff etc. Cheers, PeterR Australia *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
