Posted for Cheryl Wagner Each kayaker in the Potomac Swim is asked to accompany one swimmer and to give him or her water and food every 30 minutes (or so). They are also asked to guide the swimmer on a straight course (following the lead boat, the "Knight Life") and to raise their paddle if the swimmer gets into trouble. There are boats cruising by constantly to watch for any problems. Paddlers are asked to share any safety tips, concerns, etc. at the pre-swim safety briefing and supper the night before the swim. They are also asked to watch for signs of hypothermia in their swimmer when the swimmer feeds (for example asking them their phone number). Please feel free to contact me for more information.
