>>Doug Lloyd (who's still trying to find Lime Stoned Point on his map of the San Yawn Islands)<< Then thou sayest: > According to my navigation guru, Rob Robinson, try L 48 degrees, 37.4 N by Lo 123 degrees 06.4 W. What's in a name, anyway?< You should really replace that Rob guy with something a little smaller. Perhaps a modern GPS, which consumes a lot less alcohol, takes up a lot less room around the house, and is easily stored and put out of sight when you don't want it around. They are also a lot less combustible when lighting incense. I used to have my own navigation guru too. He was really small, had a very fast dialect, and fit perfectly cross-legged on my Nordkapp's deck. I could even take navigation cues at night because there was built-in enlightenment. I think you can still order similar units from the Indian subcontinent. You may need a translator plug-in. You should probably replace your insta-guru chart-updater, also know as the Mike unit, with the newer 7.0 version; it's pure perfection and doesn't snore the plaster off the walls at night while recharging. :-) Actually, your WCK gang are the greatest. I was probably a little effusive in my original post about your crew, but it's hard not to gush forth when surrounded by paddlers who are either very talented, or more to my original point, striving and achieving measurable goals so quickly. I'm surrounded in Victoria with wannabe-serious paddlers who only ply local waters, and infrequently, and figure they have arrived. Get some training man, take a course or two, join a club, get out and challenge yourself like Mary, and get out onto the open coast -- multiday, if you want to experience the many-faceted nature of sea kayaking. I realize everyone can't do it all overnight, nor may they want to or should, but I'm allowed to vent, rant, and even rave now and again. One of these days I'm going to meet some of the other paddlers on this list, like Montana Shawn and Shellback Steve (and probably be blown out of the water!). I'm also blown-away with how many way-advanced and _young_ BCU paddlers there are close to your vicinity, Jolie (near that point of land you pinpointed with them degree thingies you were referring too). It would be neat to meet up with some of them too, not that I minded spending time around the fireplace with a room full of older, divorced paddlers. ;-) (I'll squirm tomorrow, Kirk). Hope to meet more Paddlewisers in the future. Doug Lloyd (who's going to try a get out for his own sheltered-water peace paddle this week, to get some peace of mind). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~ "Whatever can be said at all can be said clearly and whatever cannot be said clearly should not be said at all."
