I was wondering about past expeditions circumnavigating Iceland, the only succesful one seems to be when Nigel Foster did it. Many have tried but failed and there is very little info on the Net about any others. Does anybody know of other successful ones? Or any details about the failed ones? I have info on 3 failed expeditions. An English one in 1993 or 1994 involving 4 paddlers that failed due to lack of time, An English one in 2001 involving 2 paddlers that failed because of injury while under way and one in 2001 that never started because the paddler sustained injuries while climbing. He, Nick Lowton, circumnavigated the Vestfjords in stead, which is one of the hardest places to paddle in Iceland, despite his climbing injuries. Nick wrote a story for Seakayaker regarding that trip. There is one more try that I have no info on regarding a paddler named Harry Home in the 80īs, it is not clear if he succeeded or not, does anybody know? I look forward to follow Chris Duff,Leon Somme and Shawna Franklins expedition and have high hopes that they will succeed. Their expedition is not the only one next summer, there is an english paddler, John Burleigh, planning a solo expedition next summer so that is interesting as well. John Burleighs site http://www.iceland2003.co.uk/ Duff,Somme, Franklin site http://www.icelandexpedition2003.com/about.htm Interesting summer ahead for icelandic paddlers, cheers, Snorri *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
