I Denmark they are widely used, but mostly in kayak clubs because with this kind of PDF one size fits everybody. And are mostly for used for touring/"flat water" and racing kayaks. If you have a jacket with a double skirt and use a spray skirt then you will not be able to use the crutch strap inless you put he PDF under the jacket. If you enter the kayak from the water then the buckle on the strap sometimes is caught on the cockpit rim and then forced open - that is why I bought my own PDF.
