A non-Paddlewise buddy has about fifteen issues of Sea Kayaker, beginning
with Volume One, Issue One that he plans to surplus. I suspect shipping is
all he wants. Anyone interested please email me and I'll put the two
parties together.

Thanks for the response. My buddy says he thinks one of the ten (!)
responders and he will be able to sort it out.

I did not realize how popular old issues were. I think Sea Kayaker only has
one issue before Volume 5 Issue One (Summer 1988) in stock any more. I
believe Matt Broze might have some early issues if someone is trying to fill
in their stash.

subject: [Paddlewise] Magic Trick: Convert a Paddle into a Chisel?
Date: Tue, 22 Apr 2003 17:30:46 -0700
5 years ago last Friday I woke from coma wanting in the worst way, to
paddle my kayak. I was told that most recovery will happen in my first 5
years. Fact is that kayaking requires abilities that have still not
returned. That's OK I guess, as I grew in some areas, others got lost...

Last Winter I offered up a w/w boat, and a slightly torn drysuit for
shipping costs and I was lucky to find owners for them.

It's spring in the great Pacific Northwest. In my other life, I would of
course be chomping at the bit to hit the water. It's not happening for me.

Now, how does one "convert a Paddle, into a Chisel?" More, Why would
anyone want to do that anyway???? <grin> I finally got my web site up on
it's own URL. The one thing I can do better than pre-injury, is carve
wood. I've a gallery on my page showing some of the better stuff.

Following this link will show you what I want to sell off to interested
parties:

http://www.totemwood.us/kayak.htm

Here's a brief list of what can be let go:

2 Werner Paddles [one fiberglass, the other graphite]

Sailor II compass with deck mount

A barely used Kokotat Dry Top used perhaps 3 times

Neoprene booties

Dry bags

2 skirts [one completely neoprene, the other neoprene and cloth and adjustable]

A barely used Standard Horizon HX255S VHF MarineRadio

2 pumps, 2 paddle floats

A size Medium PFD

I've also a few video's and books to sell off:

"Inflatable Kayaking The Complete Guide"-Cecil Kuhne

"Whitewater and Seak Kayaking"-Kent Ford

"The Costal Kayakers Manual"-Randel Washburne

2 copies of "Puget Sound Current Guide" [North and South Sound & Hood
Canal]-Island Canoe, Inc. one still in wrapper.

(I'm keeping "Deep Trouble" if for no other reason than George was one of
my instructors. Same with the book [I cannot find presently] with Nigel
Foster, another one of my instructors in my "previous life.")

The video's?

2 copies of "Grace Under Pressure, learning the kayak roll" including Kathy
Balyn, Joe Holt, and Tom DeCuir.

1 copy of "Sea Kayaking-Getting Started" with Doug Connor, Marietta Gilman,
Debrah Volturno, John Dye, John Lull...

(One of the earliest) Old Town Loon Recreational Kayak [1996], made of
Royalx I think. It would still be my choice for a rec boat on Michigan
inland lakes/streams. Single seater, even allows plenty of room for one's
dog as company!

Perception Aquaterra Caspia, my first kayak, again a wonderful
recreational little kayak, but no room for a dog. In it I caught a 32inch
Northern Pike, as well as a few Walleyes on a stream no wider than my
living room...

Again the value is high enough, they'll be tossed in the trash before I
donate them.

Due to the "overwhelming" interest in the w/w boat and drysuit, I've put
off taking photo's of this stuff until later in the week, or when asked. <grin>

I refuse to donate this remaining stuff to St. Vincent DePauls, however I
have donated many SeaKayaker magazines to them.

One thing I will not let go of however? That's my Paddlewise T
shirt! :) If schedule of Quilceda carving show allows, I will try to make
it to Pt. Townsend this year.

I can be reached at this email addy: gadfly21_at_attbi.com
or this telephone number: (360) 373-7422

Just so you know, when out and about and I see kayaks atop a car or truck,
I still smile knowing what kayakers know... :)
