Sarah/Janet A couple of club members paddled Whitsunday and Hook Islands in August last year. The Whitsundays, near Airlie Beach, are a popular destination for sail yourself yacht charters. My friends picked up a double from "Salty Dog Sea Kayaks". They were happy with the boat and service. See http://www.saltydog.com.au/Page_1x.html They said best time to go is July to September, but "The Whitsundays is a fantastic place to go sea kayaking, but is not for beginners. Some of the distances across the channels are tricky, considering the tides and that the wind blew constantly SE 15-35 knots for the nine days". Depending on experience, a guided trip might suit. Another friend booked a guided tour early this year around Hinchinbrook Island, through Coral Sea Sea Kayaking, http://www.coralseakayaking.com/ This was a guided tour. The guides cooked all meals, days ended early allowing plenty of time for walking, fishing, snorkelling, swimming. My friend thought it was great, but not cheap Have a good one, Cheers, PT. *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
