Paddlewisers,

I just received and watched the new forward stroke video from Greg Barton of
Epic Kayaks. It is pretty good, but if I had to choose only one video on the
forward stroke, it would be the one from Brent Reitz. Although both of them
are doing pretty much the same stroke, Reitz does a better job organizing
his instruction and emphasizing the points. However, both videos miss some
points, most of which the other video covers. For example, Reitz does an
excellent job emphasizing how to avoid flicking the wrist with a feathered
paddle, while Barton gave it only a sentence or two. On the other hand,
Reitz didn't cover anything about alternating the raising and lowering of
the knees with the stroke, while Barton covered it pretty well. Barton also
covered grip width, while Reitz didn't mention it. Reitz didn't mention
anything about paddle length, but Barton's info about it was useless.
Interestingly, neither of them covered the proper length for the foot pegs,
which I think is an important part of the forward stroke. If you are as
obsessed with the forward stroke as I am, it's good to have both videos to
fill in most of the gaps.
