The article I reference from (in the local papers) made reference to the fact that people are satiated with the abundant wonder of nature here and that the preponderance of this supernaturalism for the many who access nature's sanctuary weekly and on weekends provides necessary sufficiency to satisfy spiritual longings. I'll not make comment on the off-topic theological issues, but I do think the observation gives further credence to how supernatural BC really is. Of course, I don't know one BC winter paddler who hasn't longingly thought of Baja paddling on more than a few occasions. :-) PS Mayne Island is utterly incredible: rich forests, farmland, Active Pass, Boat Passage, Navy Channel, Heron Bay, sense of community, micro-climate, marine parks, cozy pubs, good food, well...let's just say someone is very lucky. Best paddle-with-spouse trip I ever had was around Mayne Island. PPS BC surf is a little different than Oregon surf: save for Long Beach (Tofino area) you don't get these endless lines of breakers usually. Gee, in Oregon surf zones you have time for three weddings and a funeral by the time you get to shore! Doug Lloyd (who realizes there are many fine paddling places, yes, like Wales or Scotland -- but at least BC has more than just suffrutescent offerings along its windswept shores). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~ "Whatever can be said at all can be said clearly and whatever cannot be said clearly should not be said at all." Plan on building a shell this summer. We currently paddle in Oregon mostly on inland streams and open ocean. I'm still trying to figure out surf. It's a lot of fun and swimming. *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
