There was an earlier thread about finding time to paddle. I have 3 children - 3, 5, and 7 yrs. This weekend we did an overnight camping trip and I took my boat. We were on a tiny lake with a beach - I pulled the rear hatch cover and gave rides...literally never more than 10' from shore in water less than 36" deep - PFDs for all. They thought it was great fun looking for fish swimming under us. Not safe for open water (lack of airtight rear hatch, no flotation bag in back, lack of wet exit practice with them, etc etc) but still a great way to get out and paddle - and share the sport with them. I even got in a quick riderless paddle around the lake too. I'm guessing this is also good practice for bracing....I couldn't see them behind me and I had to react whenever they would crane their head over the side to watch a fish go by.
