Cut two pieces of strapping about a foot long.

Poke a hole in each end with a hot nail.

Remove one front quarter panel bolt on each side of your vehicle.

Put the bolt through the holes in the strap and reinstall the bolt.

When you need the tie down lift the hood and flip the straps out.

When you don't need the tie down hide the straps under the hood.

I learned this from a member of the MN Canoe Association.

The method has worked for me for about 6 years with no discernable wear on
the straps.
