Thanks to Tom Joyce for reminding me of the lighthouses in the Apostle Islands. In addition to the one on Devils Island, there is one on Sand Island (land in Lighthouse Bay and follow the trail, or hike from the campsites on the east side of the island), one on the west side of Raspberry Island (land on the spit on the southeast end of the island and follow the trail, one on the north end of Outer Island (land on the beach just east of it and hike up the stairs)and two on the south side of Michigan Island, one of which looks down on the other (land next to the dock and hike up the stairs). Most of these have volunteer guides who can show you around, at least in a normal year. I don't know if they will still be there in a time of severe budget cuts. Also, I forgot to mention in my previous post that the Squaw Bay caves and the Swallow Point caves in Justice Bay on Sand Island all face north or northwest, so the best time to visit all of them is just after sunrise or just before sunset. There are also two shipwrecks that can be seen near Red Cliff. One is in shallow water off the northeast corner of Buffalo Bay, IIRC, and the other is against the shore on the north side of Schooner Bay (also called Red Cliff Bay, though the village of Red Cliff is on Buffalo Bay). The first one is partly exposed, and can be seen from a little way off. If you have a roll and a face mask, you can see the underwater parts best by turning upside down.
