Whichever brand you decide on, you may wish to seriously consider the
following criteria:

1. JS7 submersible rating
2. 5W output with clear sounding speaker and microphone
3. Easy to use buttons or dials, and clear readout.
4. Sized to wear it in a place convenient to speak from. (You may wish to
consider that when you actually need it as seas may be a bit lumpy. *Uh, guys,
I'm way back here, can y'all slow down just a smidge.*) I wear mine from a loop
on the left shoulder strap of my pfd. It is very easy to hear and speak from.
5. A separate battery tray that takes AA's. It sucks being on a trip and day
5 finds you with low battery power. They have yet to make Douglas Fir or
Western Hemlock with 110V convenience outlets.

Raytheon, Icom, Uniden and many other brands are quite good. I own a Uniden
and an Icom with excellent operational histories. Try to find the one you like
best, with the characteristics that you think are suitable.
