June 21, 2003 Wilkerson Pass, CO << The only complaint I had was the backband. I'm not sure whether it was the adjustment or the band itself. I noted that more than one person had replaced the one from the factory. >> I too have been looking for a new boat (currently in a plastic Necky Zoar). After looking at a bunch of boats, finally got a chance to paddle a CD Gulfstream, at the East Coast festival, in Charleston, SC. That sold me and I'll be in the market, just as soon as I sell my wife's boat (she'll get the Necky). As for that backband, I and everyone else I met looking at the boat, agreed that it needed replacing. In fact we kind of ganged up on the CD rep about it. :-) I've heard good things about Imersion Research back bands and will take a closer look when I get the new boat. Why wait? Well, we travel full-time and I only have room atop the pickup for two boats. Both rest in Yakima Land Sharks, which because of the length of the full-size truck & cap, I can spread about 9' apart. Gives good stability and I don't need fore & aft tie downs. However, I do loop & lock the aft ends down with plastic coated cable (both boats have aft-mounted security loops). Additionally, I loop another strand over the bows and attach it to the front rack as security against one of my cam straps breaking. I replace these straps annually, as my boats live atop the truck year-round. (I also use lots of "303".) We pull the truck behind the motorhome and so far, we've traveled this way for over 6 years and some 150,000 miles without mishap.
