Male bears have a rather high level of serological testosterone that, of course, fluctuates with the season. Interestingly, and off topic, is the common green iguana so often seen in pet shops. This animal has the highest level of serological testosterone of any land vertebrate. Unexpected attacks by adult males upon their menstruating female owners are not uncommon. I agree with your post. Many of us rely too much upon armchair writers who express theory as compared to reality. The behaviour and practices of the locals are always the best illustration and guide for any specific region. And besides... the bears have not read the book! BTW, I'm new to the list; greetings to all.
