[Paddlewise] Kayakers in Advertising

I was reading the Twin Cities Star Tribune this morning when a travel ad for
Michigan's Upper Peninsula jumped out at me. The photo in the ad was of two
kayakers in front of a sea arch at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. It was
hard to tell for sure, but the kayaker on the left looked like Stan Chladek,
proprietor of Great River Outfitters and U.S. importer of the Valley Canoe and
Nigel Dennis kayaks.

Somewhat ironically, the theme of the ad was how easy it is to get to
picturesque places in the U.P. The arch in the photo is several miles from the
nearest road access. I couldn't tell for sure whether the arch was the Grand
Portal or the smaller arch a mile or so west of it. If it was the Grand Portal,
then the picture was taken a few years ago, before several tons of rock fell
from the roof of the arch, which would make it false advertising today!

BTW, both kayakers were in British-style kayaks, and neither was wearing a PFD.
