RE: Marine Radios - recommendation and speaker volume The VHF marine radio I use is an I-COM M2A. I like the size and ease of operation however the speaker does not sound very good or clear when at a fairly loud volume necessary to hear it when in windy conditions and strapped to the deck. - Perhaps someone in our group might like to comment on whether I should expect better sound and if I should try and get it repaired or replaced. Despite being labeled as waterproof, I treat it as non waterproof and store it in a Seal Line deck bag. I view this technique as to keep down the day to day wear on it. If it is a hot and sunny day I try and shade the drybag so it does not fry the circuits. Perhaps there is no reason to do either. It has a AA backup tray although I start the trip off with the NiCad tray fully charged as I-COM says the AA tray does not supply quite as much broadcast power.
