Hi Jim, When you fly in to Sandspit, you will find a small tourist information area, with very helpful and informative staff. If I recall there is one or two businesses that do shuttle runs to kayaking areas in Gwaii Haanas. One of them is called something like Moresby Explorers tours and they run a van and zodiacs into the park for shuttles. It is around a 45 minute drive on gravel road to Moresby camp which is a good starting point. There is also a car/truck rental agency at the airport - if you choose to be self sufficient. I would also recommend getting Kirby Steven's kayaking maps for the area. There is also a good small boat guide for the Charlottes. As for friendly businesses - you will find everybody there friendly. The people at the kayak rental place were very easy to deal with. We rented an extra double for our group - they even loaned us a crab trap complete with bait. :) Jim Meldrum ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 30 Jun 2003 12:45:20 -0500 From: "James" <jimtibensky_at_fastmail.fm> Subject: [Paddlewise] Gwaii Haanas aka Queen Charlottes Friends and I will be going to the Queen Charlottes to kayak the Gwaii Haanas National Park. Landing with our folding boats in Sandspit, does anyone have any advice as to the best way or ways to get to the park from there, things to see or avoid, names of friendly businesses or people who will accept shipment of stoves and food in advance, ANYTHING that will help make our trip better? None of has been there before nor do we know anyone who has. We're going from August 23 through September 8. Thanks in advance.
