A few months back I received the new Cacadia Marine Trail Guidebook from the Washington Water Trails Assn. It's a clear improvement on previous guides. Some of the trailheads referred to are hard (maybe impossible) to find on a map in the book, but other than that, this guide seems perfect, and I am inspired to drive up to Puget Sound in August and try it out. Are there any guides to hotels/motels/guest houses on Puget Sound that are accessible by kayak? When my partner and I paddled the Maine coast a few years back, we used the Maine Island Trail Assn's guidebook and the extremely valuable "Hot Showers of Maine," a paperback that had minimaps of each of the lodgings we wight want to use, along with all the data for contacting them for reservations, etc. Hot Showers of Maine allowed us to reduce our impact on the Maine Islands by checking into a beach hotel every other day or so ( we could also empty and clean our toilet tupperware). Plus, a hot shower, a nice meal we didn't have to cook ourselves, occasional cable TV and clean sheets, made it easy to stretch the paddle out to three weeks! I can see from the Cascadia guide that there are obvious portions of the trail where we will have to find a place to stay ( such as in Tacoma, between Kopachuck and Lisabeula, in Seattle, between Fay Bainbridge and Meadowdale, and beween Meadowdale and Oak Bay County Park). If there is a "Hot Showers of Puget Sound" guide, I would be grateful to know about it. If such a guide does not exist, does anybody have any ideas for any take outs with lodging to bridge these three gaps referred to above? douglas in sf *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
