We are looking for help with accommodations, put-ins, and maps for a trip to
the Adirondacks the days of Aug 7-16, or some period there of. We are
looking for a place that is reasonable for 2 people and close enough to
water that we can paddle most of every day we are there. Being teacher we
have little money but lots of need for a few days before school demands our
return on Aug 18th. Anyone with links to nice places or any ideas of where
we might go would be wonderful. We are adverse to camping in 90+ degree heat
and mosquitoes that might carry us and our boats off.

Any help will be appreciated.

We stay in Lake Placid quite often and found we can get to any of the other
surrounding lakes very easily.

There is a Marina in Lake Placid you can launch from but if you want to stay
somewhere right on the Lake I have stayed in most of the Inns/Motels there..
though these 2 have the best lake access and prices.

http://www.placidbay.com/main.html - they have kitchenette units with a full
table for 4 if you plan on eating in your room to save money - the pool looks
over Lake Placid.

http://www.wildwoodmotel.com/ - we stayed in cottage #9 - was cozy and had a
kitchenette plus they have outdoor grils for use.

Both of these have great docks as well as pools to cool off after a long
paddle. They are both close enough to downtown that you could park your car
when you arrive and not have to drive again till you leave.

Feel free to let me know if you have any questions as we go up there atleast 3
times a year.

If you would like to paddle some bigger but beautiful water, contact the
Lake Champlain Committee, 106 Main Street, Burlington, Vt. (Tel: (802)
658-1414, e-mail: lcc_at_lakechamplaincommittee.org, website:
www.lakechamplaincommittee.org for a copy of the 2003 Lake Champlain
Paddlers Trail booklet (it's more than a booklet). The guide covers both
side of the Lake and is full of detailed maps and campsite info. Having
used several of the sites over the years, I can vouch for the accuracy of
their info.
Hope this helps.
