Hi Chuck, About your PUR filter, I think I recently read in Outdoor Magazine gear review that one or more of the filters PUR made were sold to Katadyn who was now making them. Here is a link to Katadyn's site that shows two of their filters that used to be made by PUR. http://www.katadyn.ch/site/us/home/outdoor_products/our_products/backcountry_series/ Perhaps the "Guide" filter is a renamed "Explorer". The "Hiker kept the same name. Thanks, but the Guide is a different filter, though superficially it resembles the Explorer. The Explorer has a built-in backflushing and cleaning mechanism, which is the main reason I purchased it. A Google search found a message from someone else with an Explorer that needed a new cartridge, who said Katadyn merely offered him a discount on the purchase of a Hiker model.
