I'm kinda, sorta, maybe, toying with the idea of a 10ish day trip to the
Florida Keys next February/March. I may not be able to swing the time
off from work, though, because I'm also tentatively planning a 10ish day
trip to Acadia in Maine in September/October of the same year. But,
once it's planned, I can go another year if next year doesn't work out.

Anyway, I'd probably camp at 2 or 3 different state parks (depending on
where the good paddling sites are) and take day trips, and do a little
non paddling sight seeing when not on the water. May or may not have
the family with me.

It's about 1,100 miles and a 17-18 hour drive from where I live to Key
Largo (per Mapquest), so I'd probably also stay somewhere in Georgia for
a day both going and coming, just to break up the drive and do a short
paddle in that area. Maybe, Cumberland, Jekyll, Tybee or something like
that.

The other thought is to go straight to the Keys, paddle there for about
5 days, then spend 3-4 days hoping up the coast, staying at Parks,
paddling 3-4 sites as I go (drive a few hours, then paddle - repeat
until home).

The web is full of info, I'm sure, but I thought I'd weed out some of
the chaff by simply asking the group for links to web sights and
publications that they have found useful for similar trips to the Keys
(just as a little time saver). I'd be interested in open water and
protected water, short jaunts and all day adventures. I want to see sea
life and scenic shorelines. In other words, at this point, all types of
paddling are fair game.

If there are any "Must Visit" attractions or restaurants in the area,
I'd be interested in that as well.... especially the restaurants :-)

Thanks

Rick - Poquoson, VA
