Chuck If you don't get a kayak cover at least get a cockpit cover, especially if your boat travels in saddles. It keeps the cockpit clean - no grit, no bugs (especially spiders) and no rain water. I have a CD Gulfstream with an Old Town cockpit cover that fits just fine. One word of caution. I had one blow off on the NJ Turnpike. Now I secure the cover by threading the tie-down strap through the cover's front grab loop. The bungee knot at the back of the cover I pull under the rear tie-down strap before I tighten it. A simple system that works. Also, if you don't go with a cover, apply a liberal coating of 303 UV protectant. Not only does it provide UV protection but it also makes the boat a cinch to wash down. The Gulfstream is one very fine kayak (unsolicited testimonial).
