A short note regarding what may or may not have been posted previously on Paddlewise about Suunto's non-recall of known-to-be-faulty production runs of their X-6 and X-6 HR "wrist top computers". The glitch causes the instruments to re-set to one of two default time-date settings and this not caused by any consistent or predictable actions or use/conditions on the part of the consumer. It is also unfortunate that while Suunto acknowledges this problem on their corporate website, the only remedy now being offered is for you to send your watch to be repaired or replaced that their discretion. It appears that repair is their most consistent choice. Waiting time from their receipt to shipping a 'fixed' watch is suggested to be a a month. I returned the X6 one because the display went entirely blank as the result of a battery change and could not be revived (even following the suggested steps). My second, replacement X6 'wrist top computer' reset all functions repeatedly while on a paddle, leaving me with an essentially useless and overpriced bracelet. It is forever March 15th, 2002 in certain parts of Finland....and while I have no particular quibble with that point in history, I tend to look for a more 'in the moment' quality in my watches and barometers. Those of you who have invested in these 'instruments' may wish to contact Suunto to make sure your product is not one of the faulty runs in question. Their customer service people are very nice, but can only tell you to return the watch for repair. You might also consider returning it to the place of purchase for a refund or credit toward the purchase of a product with more proven reliability. I have no financial gain/loss/investment one way or the other on Suunto products, nor any products offered by their competitors. I do remember posting something glowing about this product a while back. Hmmm...the taste of crow may well linger. Please do not follow up with endless posts about how your $1.98 WalMart WhizWatch saved civilization right up until the moment you tossed it into the local landfill.
