Looks like Vancouver Island's first reported Grizzly Bear arrived in Port Hardy recently. No one knows how it got over to the island. I don't want a bear to eat my cat or trash my boat or rip my tent to eat me. Some time ago I read "The Bear's Embrace", one ery affecting account of how a grizzly encounter can change your life forever and not for the better. However, after the bear's long swim through challenging conditions and hopeful arrival on land, it is too bad there are so many of us that this had to happen.
