Paddlewise:


    Some of you may actually read this and tuck it away for its content. So,
here is a story about understanding accidents. 





    The article focuses on big accidents, but it is relevant to anyone who has
organized a complex (or complicated) undertaking. For example, a swim race
around Manhattan or perhaps across the Hudson River with a couple of hundred
individuals swimming, kayaking or in power boats.  





    Things go wrong. There is good science to understand why and how. I can
only hope that this  may help avert accidents in the future. Best wishes,
