My apologies for not answering earlier to the member who was inquiring about
kayaking in Auckland.

I am a native of the city with an intimate knowledge of the harbour so
perhaps I can help you with any general inquiries about traveling there..

I have no commercial or other ties with the company linked here:

http://www.kayak.co.nz/

but they seem to be established and organized...and could help you with
inquiries.

In general terms Auckland Harbour and the Hauraki Gulf are home to a huge
recreational maritime population.. including hundreds of seakayakers.
The gulf offers a huge variety of relatively sheltered island to island
paddling trips. New Zealand has a sophisticated tourism industry but prides
itself on friendly, laid back, but safe and efficient adventuring.
By North American standards the place is almost unpopulated ! and cheap...
I am presently living in Australia, but if I can help you with any other
Auckland inquiries let me know..
Safe paddlin'..

Peter Rattenbury
