A friend went out off Hunting Island South Carolina, USA riding his new jet ski. He left at 2PM & was expected back in an hour. He didn't come back on time. His wife called the authorities and he was found at 8PM. He had hit a sandbar on an outgoing tide and couldn't move the jet ski. He sat on that sandbar for 6 hrs with no water, shade, sunscreen, flares, or radio. He ended up sunburned, dehydrated, and with an injured back from trying to move the jet ski. His misfortune makes me feel a bit better when I am teased by some members of my kayak club for carrying extra water, flares, a radio, and even a Hennessy Hammock on day paddles.
